Alex was smart, funny, fearless, reckless. He wanted to help people and make a difference in people's lives. He went to Haiti on a volunteer mission and wanted to continue that type of work.
Tell us about their struggles with substance use disorder
He began drinking after his brother died of cancer and no amount of therapy, counseling, or tough love helped. He never felt worthy of happiness after his brother died.
What made them smile?
He had a beautiful smile. He loved helping others and he loved his friends.
What do you miss the most about them today?
I miss our talks, his sense of humor, his kindness, his sense of adventure.
