Heroin Memorial - 2016/01/22 - Cory Day - Age 24 yrs - West Seneca, New York

CoryDay1

2016/01/22 - Cory Day - Age 24 yrs - West Seneca, New York

Submitted by: Jamie Smith - Friend

Name: Cory Day
State:  New York, 14224

Date of Passing: 01/22/2016
Date of Birth: 03/27/1991
Age: 24

Tell Us About Them:

Cory had a sense of humor and personality that could make literally anyone and everyone love him. His smile and his hug could make any sad day better. He was only 24 when he was taken from us, and he had so many big hopes and dreams for his life. I have never in my life met anyone quite like Cory, and I know I never will. He was one of a kind, and that is why he was so special to everyone who knew him.

Tell Us About Their Struggles With Addiction:

Cory struggled with addiction for about 10 years. He went to multiple programs, detoxes, and even jail quite a few times. Sometimes it would stick for a few days. Sometimes a month. But, unfortunately, his addiction took his life when he was 2 months sober. He wanted a better life. He hated his addiction. He knew he had a problem, and he knew he needed help. Everyday I wish he could have just one more chance. Just one more chance to make his life everything he wanted it to be.

What Made Them Smile?

Cory loved his family. His mom was his world. He was so protective over her. Same with his little sister. He loved playing music with his dad. They had a complicated relationship, but music was the one thing that brought them together, and Cory loved every second of that. Cory loved helping people. He loved making people laugh. He tried to hide it with his tough guy personality, but he had such a big heart and despite his addiction, he would do anything for those he loved.

What Do You Miss the Most About Them?

I miss his smile. I miss him holding me and always protecting me. I miss hearing him say "I love you." I miss his laugh, and his goofy sense of humor. The way you couldn't stay mad at him because he always knew exactly what to do or say to make you laugh. I just miss being able to call him and talk for hours. I miss picking him up and going to sit by the water, laying together and talking. I miss talking about our future and listening to his ideas for what he was going to do. I miss listening to him talk to his mom. He really loved her. I just miss my Cory. He was my constant for a long time, and I'm just not sure where to go from here.

If You Had a Chance to Say One More Thing to Your Angel What Would It Be?

I love you. You are loved by SO MANY people. You can get through this. I'm sorry for not coming to see you, but I thought I was doing what was best. But I thought I had forever to come see you again. But if I had to sum up what I'd say to him in ONE sentence if I had the chance, it would be- "I told you you were my always and forever, so I'll always love you, until the day we meet again."

State:  New York, 12018

Date of Passing: 9/1/2015
Date of Birth: 8/9/1990
Age: 25

Tell Us About Them:

Alex was a very talented girl. She was a talented artist and could play guitar and had a beautiful voice. She had graduated with a BA from SUNY Oneonta. She majored in music industry. Alex had a quick wit and a great sense of humor.
Alex is missed by many. I'll never get used to her being gone. I miss her so much.

Tell Us About Their Struggles With Addiction:

Alex suffered from anxiety and depression and had started taking Xanax which her doctor prescribed in higher and higher doses. She was on them for over 4 years. She changed doctors and they were trying to wean her off of them. She told me that that was when she started using heroin because it made her feel better. She told us she was addicted to heroin 2 weeks before she died. We got her into detox and she seemed good when she got out. We knew nothing about addiction and didn't know how hard it is to get away from. She gave me a hard time about asking her if she what she was doing so I gave her space which was a big mistake. She walked out of detox with nothing except a referral to outpatient care. She got an appointment for 5 days later. When she went they wanted the name of her psychiatrist and she wouldn't give it because she would loose her Xanax which she said she couldn't live without

What Made Them Smile?

Alex loved animals. Especially cats. She would have been a crazy cat lady someday. She loved music and going to concerts. She loved hanging out with her friends.

What Do You Miss the Most About Them?

I miss her coming home and coming through the door and saying 'hey'. I miss her sense of humor and talking to her.

If You Had a Chance to Say One More Thing to Your Angel What Would It Be?

I would tell her how talented she was and how much I loved her.

2015/10/15 - Jared Justice - Age 26 yrs - Dry Ridge, Kentucky

Submitted by: Rebecca Alsip - Sibling

Name: Jared Justice
State:  Kentucky, 41035

Date of Passing: 10/15/2015
Date of Birth: 07/27/1989
Age: 26

Tell Us About Them:

Jared was a son, brother, and uncle who would be there for you no matter what. During his active addiction he was a totally different person. He was the most cockiest person I had ever met. He loved learning about trees and had an extensive knowledge about them. He hated school and authority. Loved to be out doors all of the time.

Tell Us About Their Struggles With Addiction:

We have a lot of presumptions but we really don't know when he really started to experiment with drugs. He tried alcohol before he was 21 and got into trouble with that. After the first time of being in trouble with the law it just went down hill from there. He was very good at hiding his addiction. It wasn't until he was caught that we realized the extent of the situation. He had struggled for about 6 years with addiction. In and out of jail, being sober in jail, then getting out and going right back to drugs and hanging around the wrong crowd. We had hoped that a year and a half of jail time would have made him realize that sober was the way to be, but 30 days out of jail he was right back where he left off.

What Made Them Smile?

He loved goofing off and picking on people.

What Do You Miss the Most About Them?

I miss everything about him. Even though he got on my last nerve I still miss not having him here with us physically. Not being able to grow old with him and knowing it's just me now is what hurts the most.

If You Had a Chance to Say One More Thing to Your Angel What Would It Be?

I would tell him that I loved him. We never really expressed out feelings for each other or in our immediate family. We all just sorta knew that we all loved each other in the actions that we took everyday. That we all needed him even if he thought that we didn't. I would express my feelings more openly with him and tell him the honest truth with no filters. Hoping that he would realize his actions was hurting everyone around him.

He told me he loved me every day. Even when he was a teenager. I remember all the moms were jealous that even when he was in high school he still hugged me and told me he loved me. I'd give anything to hear him say, "I love you, Mom." just one more time.

If You Had a Chance to Say One More Thing to Your Angel What Would It Be?

I love you, Anthony. I'm glad you're out of pain now.

State:  Minnesota, 55089

Date of Passing: 8•31•15
Date of Birth: 5•8•90
Age: 25

Tell Us About Them:

Dennis was the youngest of my 2 children. He was a father of 3children who miss him a whole bunch. Dennis trusted and found to befriend people of all walks of life. He had a heart of gold and a smile worth a thousand words. He had a great sense of humor and always had people laughing no matter what the situation was. He was smart and knew his way around getting what he wanted. He will always be my baby boy, regardless.

Tell Us About Their Struggles With Addiction:

My son struggled with addiction at an early age. The older he got, the worse his drug habit consumed his life. Anxiety and depression played a major role into his using. He sought out using daily just to feel normal. The sad part was, he only thought of himself and no one else during these times, but I knew he wanted to quit and tried many times to become sober, but to no avail. He was his worst enemy, he knew it. He loved Us and his children but loved that feeling of numbness more. The worries stopped once he started self medicating. It was a daily routine, a routine in which one becomes accustomed to the situation at head. The withdrawal for him, like many others, wasn't pretty. He didn't OD on heroin, but did dabble with it. His DOC was Xanax and Methodone, that's what was in his system at the TOD, the struggle is real...

What Made Them Smile?

His family, he was proud of his children and seeing them happy is what made him smile. A home cooked meal always put a smile on his face too, me loved my cooking. Knowing we cared and loved him, regardless of the drug Use, made him smile. Knowing he could count on me, made him smile. Simple things in life, made him smile. The drugs use to mask his smile, the faces of addiction covered up his smiles...

What Do You Miss the Most About Them?

What do I miss most ?!! Hmmmm, I miss him, him before the drugs took over his heart, mind, body & soul. I miss the little boy I carried for 9 months of my life, I miss the little boy that I raised into a young man, only to be taken away from me. I thought we could conquer these demons, but in the end, they won.

If You Had a Chance to Say One More Thing to Your Angel What Would It Be?

Simple---> I love you !
